Mc donald

Person: Hyun Jin Cha

Company: McDonalds
Purpose: The purpose of this ad was to convince people to buy their products, which are fastfoods like hamburgers, french fries, curly fries...etc.
Target Audience: Pretty much young people like teenagers, and maybe children.

Why this ad is effective: It was actually really funny, and smart. This kid came along to a family eating McDonalds with a CD player playing funky music. Then he did as lyrics followed, for example at one point the music said 'slide to the left, slide to the right' and the kid held 2 french fries in his each of his hands and slipped them in ketchup left hand first, and right hand. He was also dancing, which was funny. This probably was to attract viewers (young people) to keep them watching. When the kid first came, the family's expression was like 'what the heck' but as the kid danced and mimiced the lyrics, they seemed to be interested and the father was shaking his head along the beat. Then when the ad ended, they showed McDonald's logo and slogan.

My Choice

If I had to pick weather if I could lie or get an answer truthfully, I would pick lying. This is because when I ask a question and ask for a true answer, the person I'm asking might give me an answer, which might be correct, but here's a possible situation: what if they also had the advantage to lie? If they had, they could lie and make up the whole thing, which obviously is a fake. So if others had the advantage to lie, I see no point choosing getting an answer truthfully. Instead, I would rather choose having the advantage to lie.

The next reciever of memory

Today was the day... the day I was assigned.. that's not right, the day I was supposed to be given my assignment as a Twelve, but instead, I got chosen.  I got to be chosen as the next reciever of memory by an Elder I've never even seen before in my life.  Now this assignment, what the chief elder said it was the most honored job in the community, is now to become my future.  When the chief elder said something about 5 elements that are required to be a reciever of memory early on, I was too astonished and stunned to remember anything, but I think she mentioned something about pain...an excruciating and undescribeable pain that would eventually come along during my training.  This put me on great fear, and confusion...even at this right moment, my head is spinning and my mind is filled with unease, waiting for the day of training to come.

Deconstruct an Ad

Target Audience:  Soccer fans, Soccer players

I thought that this ad was really cool and smart.  When it grabbed my attention, first I thought it was some kind of advertisement about teeth but turns out it was an advertisement for soccershoes.  When I thought about it, I knew that these soccershoes were really strong and solid.
  1. Symbolism:  The white spikes that look like teeth represents bottom of the shoe.
  2. Body Language:  The pair of shoes are placed on top of the other, which makes it look like teeth.  This makes the shoe look strong and powerful, because teeth are solid and hard.
  3. Camera angle:  The shot was taken just straight in front of the shoe placed on top of each other.  There was no particular camera angle in this shot.
  4. Special effects:  There are no special kinds of effect in this ad, which might be like shoes on fire, the shoe crunching on a soccerball or something like that.
  5. Lighting and Color:  The spikes are white, while the background is black.  This gives a contrast color and lets the spikes stand out, which also grabs the viewer's attention.
  6. Beauty and Social standars:  Is like when a model or famous people standing out in the ad to attract viewers.  For example, there could've been David Beckham in the ad, who's a famous soccer player.  But in this ad, they chose not to put any models in.
  7. Layout and graphics:  I really liked how they put the shoes together to make it look like teeth, and how they put contrast color to let the spikes stand out.  So overall, I think it was really cool.

Swim Meet

Today in P.E class, we had a swim meet. As I got changed and got out, Mr.Shuwartz told us a little about the swim meet, like how there are 3 diffrent teams, order of the activities, how to get disqualified and all that good stuff. Anyway, as I walked on the sunbaked floor to the signing board, my team decided that our name was barracudas. The others were sharks and dolphins. I chose 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke, and 15m backstroke. The first one was freestyle. Of course, because Bjorn was the best swimmer in our class, he got 1st place without even breaking a sweat. The next activity was 15m backstroke. I was in there, along with other people. When we started, I pushed myself off the wall and did my best. Now, this is pretty much the 4th or 5th time doing backstroke including the lessons I had in swimming classes. I got 4th place out of 6. After that, breaststroke was next. I felt nervous because I've hardly dived before, and the others were really experienced at swimming. When Mr.Shuwartz said go, I hesitated and eventually got in the water with a bellyflop, which hurt badly. Not only that, my goggles nearly fell out and was blocking my whole vision. It was pretty obvious I would get last place, and I did. I'm not mentioning about the 25m backstroke because I'm outta journal time.

Fitness Testing!

We had another fitness testing in P.E for the last quarter.  We did Push-Ups, Curl-Ups, Pacer until now, and about 5 hours 30 minutes later I have to run the mile and do sit-and-reach.  Anyway, some scores were bad, and some, I was really happy with them.  First of all, when I entered the gym, Mr.Shwartz put us into partners and my partner was Alisha.  First, it was push-ups.  Alisha went first, and I went second.  She got 44 on her push-up test, which is really good.  Then I went, and I got 61, which is really good too.  I beat my last score by 18, and I was really happy with that score.  Then, the curl-up test.  Of course, Alisha went first, then I went.  When I finished the test, I only had 65 sit-ups.  Last time i got 90, but I guess I didn't exercise enough during the break and all.  That was the score I wasn't really happy with.  Then, the pacer.  This time, we weren't in partners anymore, we were in a group with simillar goals.  My pacer goal was to do 50, because I had 49 last time, and I went second.  I ran and ran until I got totally exhausted, and got 65 on my test, which was 15 more than my goal.  I was really happy with that score also.

6 Mystery graphics

CRIME:  This is a picture where the criminal (right) is holding out a gun and threatning the victim to give all his money.  This is considered to be a crime, and crimes are illegal.

DETECTIVE, PRIVATE I, INSPECTORS:  Sherlok Holmes is the most famous and classic detective, and in the book, he solves crimes carefully through investigation.  Detectives are people to tries to solve the crime using evidences, clues, and through investigation.

VILLAINS, BAD GUYS, CRIMINALS:  Every mystery stories have villains and criminals. They are the people who committed the crime and they threaten people, usually the purpose is to steal money.

Monk

Today in English class, we finished an episode of monk.  The reason we watched the show is because we're now in the 'mystery' unit.  Anyway, the episode was called the Voodoo Curse.  The show started off in a baseball field.  A boy hit a baseball with his bat, then it went homerun, flying all the way above the fence, ending up hitting an old lady who was power-walking.  Her head was bleeding, and she was dead.  The paramedics came, and after that monk and 2 other guys came to see the crime scene.  Then, out of nowhere, a voodoo doll that was sent 3 days ago before the incident was found in her house.  There was a doll with the old lady's name on it and a baseball stuck on her head.  After that, another accident happened.  A lightning stroke a golfer's head and he ends up dead.  Then again a voodoo doll that was sent 3 days before the incident was found.  It had the man's name on it and there was a piece of aluminum foil shaped like a lightning bolt sticking out of it's head. There's 3 more of these weird situations, and one of them was Mr.Robert's case.  He lived with his niece Angeline, who was a paramedic.  Mr. Robert was suffering from a heart disease, and he was rich.  One day, he died of a heart attack, and guess what?  There was a box found in his house and inside it, a voodoo doll had it's heart out.  Now the last doll was sent to Monk's assistant, Natalie.  She recieves her voodoo doll and figures that it has it's head cut off.  She was seriously scared to death, and she was willing to uncurse the curse so Monk brought Mr. Reverend.  He was the one who was selling the dolls, and obviously he was the only-one suspect.  But Natalie didn't really care and just wanted her curse to be broken.  So Mr.Reverend makes a potion made out of all these weird stuff like devil's dung.  When he was about done, Natalie becomes impatient and gulps down the potion.  She wasn't actually supposed to drink it, so immediately they called 911.  Angeline (paramedic) was brought to Monk's house and took Natalie into the ambulance.  After that, Monk spots something suspicious while reading the newspaper.

Monks saw that Angeline was brought to every single crime scene dressed up as a paramedic, carrying the victim's bodies.  Mr. Reverand told that she was a customer in his voodoo shop too.  That cleared it all out.  First a lady hit by a baseball, then a golfer killed by lightning.  Angeline was there all the time and she somehow managed to get the victim's house keys and slyily sneak into their houses and put a box that says it was sent 3 days ago.  She then puts her doll in, which looks exactly how the victim died.  And for her uncle Robert, she actually made Mr.Robert drink a drug that caused a heart failiure.  She had the perfect job to perform this, since she was a paramedic.  She killed her uncle to get all his fortune.

Plastiki

Plastiki is a distinctive and unusual ship that is 20 meters long, and the bottom of it is made out of recycled 12500 PET bottles. They sail across big oceans, and they believe they will actually make it. Now, I'm probably sure that you are thinking 'how is a ship made out of plastic bottles cross the ocean?'. The thing is, only the bottom of the ship is made out of plastic bottles, not the whole ship. It's actually filled with high-tech stuff, and very safe. There's a tent on the ship, and it's really cool. This time, march 20th, with 6 crews including David de Rothchild, sailed off from california, and their goal is to cross the pacific ocean. This expedition is led by David de Rothchild, and he had this idea because of today's global warming and marine pollutions. He said that the pacific ocean is just one big trash and he came up with the idea to cross the ocean by using a boat made out of recycled bottles.

Haiti UPDATE!!!

The good news is, that more and more nations are up on the rescue. The bad news is, the number of death found is increasing rapidly by every minute. Probably right now when you are reading this post, some kind of help is being sent to haiti weather if it is field hospitals, doctors, rescue squad, loads and tons of medications, or anything you can think of that can help a country which just suffered 7.0 earthquake. Even though these actions are being executed, there are just too many people out there in haiti who are berried under concretes and unable to get any help. The CNN news reported 2 hours and 20 minutes before this blog entry was created, said that there were more than 20,000 kids waiting desperately for food. They also reported that the most heart-wrenching thing they saw is that more than 200 people outside the clinic waiting for their turn, which could take few hours to days. In fact, many people died waiting, because they were heavily wounded and because the action wasn't taken immediately.

Haiti Earthquake

Haiti earthquake was the biggest, nastiest earthquake ever happened in 200 years. This immense earthquake took lives of a large population, and people who luckly survived got some serious injuries. All the power were cut, so no connection whatsoever. Haiti is one of the poorest country in the whole world. By this, it was impossible to recover the damage they recieved by themselves, which is why US goverment reacted quickly and went on to the rescue. Thanks to US's quick thinking, they were able to reduce the number of death. Now that US has gone to help, other nations are starting to send haiti field hospitals and rescue teams. To know more about latest news, go to http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/01/14/haiti.updates/index.html?iref=allsearch.

What I did over break

Watch movies:
  • Avatar
  • National team (KOREAN)

  • G.I Joe: The rise of the Cobra

Avatar the movie was directed by the director of titanic, terminator and other famous movies. This movie is about a marine who goes to the planet PANDORA instead of his brother. There he meets his own avatar, connecting during daytime and sleeping at his human form during night. He also becomes one of the Navies, which is a clan of these blue aliens.

National Team is a korean movie that is funny, exciting, and touching indeed. This movie takes place in 1990s, when korea didn't participate ski jump in olympics. This movie is based on a true story, where a team of 5 trains hard to participate in the olympics. There a miracle happens.

G.I Joe the movie was out a long time ago, but I watched it in airplane because I had nothing to do. This movie is cool, and has a lot of awesome actions. There are two teams, made out of very well trained ultimate fighters. They both have weapons that are unbelivebly powerful. One of them uses them to terrorize the entire world, and one uses the weapons to stop the opponent from the terror.

White christmas

December 25th, the day when santa clause comes around and gives gifts to people. Christmas. All the happy stuff, blah blah.... There we were, my family and I looking outside, thinking about what to do. Then just when we were decided about where we should go, it was snowing. Well, maybe it snowed too much. Maybe I should call it BLIZZARD instead. This was kind of awesome, and frustrating. It was awesome because I've never seen this much snow in my whole life. The frustrating thing was that our schedule got canceled because the snow came down more than 25 cm in Seoul, and 23 cm in where I live, which makes cars impossible to drive around. So we had no choice but to stay in house in CHRISTMAS. I thought about taking a walk outside, but that was also a very hard thing to do because the outside temperature was about -17 to -18 degrees, which is cold enough to give me frostbites. So overall, I'll bet that was the worst christmas I've ever had, doing practically NOTHING.
