Scott Westerfeld

Scott Westerfeld, author of many books that includes Uglies, Midnighters, and Levithan (about to come out) series. He was born on May 5, 1963 and was born in Dallas, Texas, USA. The jobs he had in his life so far includes factory worker (making lead soldiers),substitute teacher, textbook editor, software designer, and currently he is a ghost writer. He says that he is a vegeterian, and never wears jeans(NEVER!). He also said that he just bought a telescope (Which I think is kind of random), and he can speak English, Japanese, Spanish and even Latin! I also found out that he also likes playing basketball, cricket, Tennis. I guess he is probably fit because he does all sorts of exercises and sports. He loves Mexican and Italian food, my guess is that it's becuase he was born in Mexico and usually Italian food are awesome for everybody. Also one interesting fact is that he has been married for quite long and he doesn't plan to have a son or daughter. If you read his books, you'll know more about him as you go through the books. You can see the way he thinks about the future, and you'll eventually know that why people call him a ghost writer.

Uglies

Uglies
By Scott Westerfeld
*****
You get to have an operation that turns you into a pretty from an ugly when you finally turn 16. But for Tally, it's diffrent. Her friend Shay has got the same birthday as Tally, but she doesn't want to turn pretty at all. So she decides to escape uglyville, to a place called Smoke. Since Tally has been her best friend for a while, she has to take responsibility for where Shay's gone and why she has left. The problem is, that untill she finds Shay, she will never turn pretty; which means ugly for life. Now Tally will be forced to take an unexpected jorney to find Shay.
My best part of this book is when Tally goes into the 'Special Circumstances'. This is the place where people who have 'Special Circumstances' for the operations have to go. The place is full of Specials, who are pretty, but cruely beautiful, with a cold look on their faces. Anyhow, a Specialist called Dr.Cable sends Tally to find Shay, which Tally didn't want to. The conversation between them are very interesting, which explains why it is my favourite part of the book.
I really want to recommend this book to you becuase it has stunning turnovers and the book itself is just fantastic. Addicting, and becuase there are whole series of this book, you will never get sick of it. I have a feeling that you will totally LOVE this book.

Typhoon Morakot

Recently, an immense typhoon moved towards taiwan. It's been already predicted previously the tragedy, and many people moved out before the storm began. But people who haven't fled yet may have hard time surviving the heavy rain. Anyways, there were some very intense floodings, serious mudslidesand landslides. There are more than 500 hundred victims and many more missing, and with wind packing 89mph (143 kph) threatening the entire lsland to soak. Typhoon Morakot is also the worst typhoon happened in 50 years, which explains the significant increase of the rainfall in such short time and the victims that it had.

Up: An infrared view of landslides happening in the valley of geysers.

Landslides happen when the stability of a slope gets unstable by a heavy rain, snowmelt, or an earthquake. When high levels of ground water flow through a cracked suface of a mountain, it may seperate the rocks and mud from the ground and cause a massive slide which is called, Landslide. When these slides get really serious, it can also create a megatsunami, which usually go up for more that a hundred meters high. Also, once when a person is trapped in any kind of landslides, he/she won't be able to breathe because there are no oxygen in the mud and eventually will cause death. This will be also one of the biggest problem people are having in taiwan.

Now here is a satellite view of the typhoon Morakot. You can easliy notice the eye, and just witness how big it is. This typhoon should be moving upwards, which means it may threaten countries like Japan, Korea, or China. But those countries may not have much problems as taiwanese do, because it's landscape is flat, unlike taiwan that has tall mountains surrounding, which makes the water to stay in place instead of speading out. However, countries like taiwan tends to prepare well for typhoons. So let's see what kinds of solutions taiwan have.

Yong Hee in 6th grade! YAY

Hi my name is Yong Hee Lee. I just came here in middle school, and I think I'm kinda enjoying it here. Most of all, I love the super-good ramen from the ttowa-ttowa, and the 15 minute breaks. Anyway, things I hate... I don't like eating broccoli, strawberry secret and purple snow (no offence to people who like those drinks) and ummm;; I guess thats it, because I can't think of one. I like playing basketball. And infact, I am thinking about trying out for the team. I do like playing my violin, and I've been playing for 3 years. If I had to compare myself to an animal, I'd be a bear, because I work hard in summer and sleep in the winter (Like I study hard in summer and sleep in winter break or something like that). Oh and I forget to tell that I have a brother in 8th grade, Seung Hee and I think that he is a awesome brother but he can be scary sometimes. Well, I guess that's it (I have more things to tell you 'bout myself but I can't think of one so whatever)!
